Day 4: Interlaken, Switzerland

On our way to Switzerland!

We stopped in Bern, Switzerland to visit the temple. The church and mormon shop were right next door:)

We were so glad we rented a car so we could go wherever we wanted and stop along the way and enjoy some of the countryside.

Wow. Interlaken is such a beautiful little town. We pulled into town in the late afternoon and the lighting was so pretty. There is a huge field in the center of town where paragliders land. The tallest hotel in town has a restaurant at the top of it where our friend "rick" (aka rick steves guide book), told us to get a view of the city from. We didn't eat there but no one seemed to mind us snapping a few pics and enjoying the view...
The pictures don't do it justice.

Eating our homemade sandwiches with supplies from the Co-Op. One thing about Switzerland...it's expensive, so we tried to cut costs when at all possible. Plus that left more cash for the Swiss chocolate:)

I loved these little square gardens at the back of a church.

We actually spent the night up the road from Interlaken in a little town called Lauterbrunnen at the base of the Schilthorn.
We stayed in this quirky hostel that I would definitely recomend if you are in Switzerland and into the hostel thing. Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen

Day 3: Versailles

On day 3 of our trip, we woke up, picked up our rental car, and drove out to Versailles, the palace of King Louis the XIV and Marie Antoinette. This place is massive.
There were so so many rooms inside and every one was bigger, grander, and fancier than the last. I didn't get too many pictures inside.
The Gardens were my favorite part. I don't know how big exactly it is but it looks like miles of perfectly trimmed and manicured gardens and lawns. And not to mention a couple of ponds. Sorry I feel like I am in like every picture.

It was like a maze in there.
Aren't these trees beautiful and awesome?
Marie Antoinette's gardens and palace away from the palace.
I loved this little fresh squeezed orange juice stand.
Gelato to go.

Day 2: Paris

Outside our paris apartment
The best little bakery down the street from our apartment. I think we ate here 3-4 times in 2 days.
Parker was in heaven.
Chocolate filled pastry. Breakfast of champions.
Spinach and tomato quiche.

Our first baguette.
Saint Chappelle. All the surrounding walls are stained glass depicting scenes from the Bible. It was breathtaking.

Next Stop: Notre Dame
Notre Dame bell. I believe it takes multiple people to move this thing it is so huge.

I loved watching the crepe guys making crepes... so delicious.

First gelato of the trip and many many more to come.
Out side the Louvre.
Inside the Louvre. We were already pretty dang tired when we made it to the Louvre and let me tell you, that's not such a great combo. The Louvre is absolutely massive and I suspect you could literally spend weeks in there seeing everything. We probably walked a couple of miles inside. There is just so so so much ancient art work/sculptures/artifacts to see!!There was a mass of humanity huddled around the Mona Lisa taking pictures. That was almost as entertaining as seeing the Mona Lisa herself.
The exhaustion finally brought John to his knees. We couldn't find an exit anywhere....

We took a little snooze on the grass afterwards to gain our strength.
John + Erin
Another beautiful view of the city on our way to dinner.
We ate at this little fondu joint that jordan recommended. It was definitely fun and an experience. It was a little pricey but we all decided it was worth it for the experience and we were stuffed afterwards.
This waiter in the background was a piece of work. I actually think he was intentionally trying to entertain us by fulfilling our stereotypical suspicions of a snotty, rude frenchman because he was just that. deep down I think he is a nice guy but we were laughing so hard at how rude he was...
We literally ran down Champs Elysees to get to the Arch de Triumph before it closed. This picture was taken on the run...
More stairs... they just don't end in Paris. I am telling you people, you have be in good shape to go Paris and I definitely am not. It just about killed me.

Every hour on the hour at night, the Eifell does a light show for a few minutes. It was a great end to a long day.
